Hundreds Fill Middletown street for NW Works’ Farm to Table dinner— The Winchester Star
MIDDLETOWN — During the Civil War, the Shenandoah Valley was known as the “Breadbasket of the Confederacy” due to the large amount of food grown and raised on local farms that was used to feed the Confederate Army.
On Saturday evening, the “breadbasket” proved that it is still alive and well as it produced delicacies for hundreds of diners at NW Works‘ 10th annual Farm to Table dinner.
The annual event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for NW Works, a nonprofit organization at 3085 Shawnee Drive in Winchester that provides job training and placement services for adults with disabilities. Morgan Towle, communications coordinator for NW Works, said 200 tickets were sold at $100 each for this year’s event, which was held outdoors on a closed-off portion of Church Street in Middletown. Additional proceeds were raised through sponsorships by local businesses and community service agencies.
