World Autism Awareness Day: Local experts shine a light on the mysteries of autism- The Winchester Star

Today at NW Works we're celebrating World Autism Awareness Day as part of Autism Acceptance Month! An article published by our friend, Brian Brehm, from the Winchester Star highlights autism with comments provided by NW Works CEO & President, Skip Philips.

"At NW Works, we get to discover the abilities that sometimes are a little bit hard to see on the surface," Philips said. "Many individuals classified as autistic, once they learn what their role is and what the job is, they typically are going to do that job the same way every time. They're very good at being able to internalize processes once they know what they are.

"They also love to be part of things. They like to participate, and they definitely like to receive positive feedback," Philips continued. "
So being part of something where they feel like they're doing things to help others, whether that's through a job or other interactions on a social level, is in many cases very rewarding."
