Name Changes, Mission Doesn’t: A Look Back at NW Works’ Journey
Enjoy this blast from the past as we head back to January of 2003 just before Northwestern Workshop officially became NW Works, Inc. As the article from the archives reminds us, "Name Changes, Mission Doesn't." Read along, and see if you recognize the familiar face in the photo!
Since 1970, NW Works, formerly Northwestern Workshop, has proudly provided life changing services to adults with disabilities in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.
Today, in 2025, we're proud of how far we've come:
NW Works supports 233 individuals across:
Our on-campus Group Day Support Program
Job coaching services in the community
Our Business Services and AbilityOne teams
We're partnered with 55 area businesses who employ and support the individuals we serve
Individuals like Jake (pictured), continue to develop skills, build confidence, and maximize their independence through experiences at NW Works or in the community. Jake can now be found enjoying music therapy, harvesting produce in the NW Works garden, and participating in community outings.
As we prepare to celebrate our 55th anniversary, we're reminded of the progress our organization has made. Just as former CEO John Brauer envisioned, NW Works continues to create opportunities that empower individuals and strengthen our community.
