From Gardens to Growth: A 55 Year Throwback with NW Works
As we celebrate 55 years of NW Works, we’re remembering the many ways gardens have played a role in our community, first for enjoyment and later for a greater purpose. In 2015, Shenandoah Valley Community Residences, a local group home, offered residents the chance to nurture their own garden. Recently at NW Works, individuals have also gained gardening skills that build confidence, support skill development, and even open doors to agricultural employment if that's what they choose.
This year, we’ve harvested over 332 pounds of produce, donated more than 200 pounds, and created opportunities to cook, create, and learn together.
Pictured are Steve and Dave, longtime members of the NW Works family who have found employment and enjoy gardening, music therapy, and other in-house activities.
For 55 years, NW Works has been cultivating growth in gardens, in careers, and in community.
