Sara Schoonover is NW Work’s Director of Therapeutic Programs.  Prior to joining NW Works in May of 2025, Sara served as the Executive Director of Healthy Families Northern Shenandoah Valley from 2008 to 2025. Originally from Elkins, WV, she has more than 25 years of experience in leading not-for-profit human service agencies. She has a love for the field of prevention and treatment services, grant writing and helping to build strong communities through community partnerships. 

Originally from Elkins, WV, Sara is a graduate of Marshall University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.  Outside of work, Sara enjoys spending time with her partner, Jules and her four children, Oliver, Jack, Henry and Vivian.  When she’s not taking her kids to band, dance or karate, Sara loves to travel. She enjoys the outdoors and can be found hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving or by the campfire on the weekends.
