NW Works in Profile: Wendy Evans

Wendy Evans

Meet Wendy! Originally from Boston, Wendy spent time in Florida before settling in Virginia, where her passion for helping others began to take shape. Wendy volunteered with Social Services and gained insights into the world of Medicaid and public support programs. During her work with Social Services, Wendy realized her calling was to work more directly with individuals as a support system and be part of meaningful change.

Wendy first heard about NW Works through a conversation with someone at the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), and as Wendy put it, she ‘followed her nose’ to NW Works after first encouraging a friend, Tina, to apply to the organization. After Tina joined the team and shared her experience, Wendy decided to apply too—and found herself drawn in by the same sense of purpose.

Wendy now serves as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist supporting the individuals we serve and offering her life experiences and positive energy to the team. Whether she’s job coaching out in the community or working side-by-side with individuals in our programs, Wendy believes in meeting people where they are and helping them grow. “The best way to make an impact is to share what you know, work together, and give people the confidence to try,” she says.

Wendy sees her role at NW Works as part of a greater legacy: sharing knowledge, building trust, and encouraging people to discover their strengths. “As I learn, I want to pass that on. It’s about leaving something behind that matters.”

For anyone new to this work, Wendy’s advice is simple but wise, “Be open-minded. Advocate for others and for yourself. A strong personality helps, and so does a smile. You can make the hard days easier with a good attitude.”

Outside of work, Wendy enjoys cooking, training her dog, riding motorcycles, and spending time with her friends.

We’re proud to have Wendy as part of the NW Works team. Her experience and belief in the people we serve make a lasting impact every day. If you, like Wendy, want to make a lasting impact and leave your legacy through supporting others, join the NW Works team today!
