NW Works in Profile: Rebecca Powell
Rebecca Powell
Meet Rebecca! As a Stephen’s City native, Rebecca is no stranger to the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Rebecca serves as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at NW Works and was drawn to the role due to her previous roles in caregiving and service positions. From piano lessons to caregiving for her grandmother, Rebecca has always cared deeply about others and wanted to teach individuals skills and build their confidence.
Rebecca is proud to have a hand in creating a setting for individuals to develop skills, be empowered, and bring them closer to their goals. Rebecca, with the support of her colleague, have made their room colorful, welcoming, and tailored it to the individuals they support. Their day-to-day operations focus on lessons where they teach practical life skills using curriculum from learning platforms, Kibu and Pathful, which NW Works recently purchased to streamline experiential and accessible learning geared towards individuals with disabilities. Rebecca enjoys seeing the individuals in her room have a genuine thirst for knowledge and an eagerness to learn more. After implementing Kibu and Pathful, team members at NW Works have become more engaged in lessons and are progressing through experiential learning— something Rebecca has noticed and helps facilitate.
During Rebecca’s time at NW Works, she has been most surprised by the team’s progression and growth both through individual accomplishments, and the organization as a whole. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys hiking on the beautiful trails that surround us and playing guitar. We’re proud to have Rebecca as part of the NW Works team. Her passion and belief in the people we serve make a lasting impact every day. If you, like Rebecca, want to make a lasting impact and support others in achieving their goals, join the NW Works team today!
