I am pleased and excited to announce that we have officially kicked off our Capital Campaign for our new building! As many of you know, our existing site on Smithfield Avenue, our “home” for the past 25+ years, is in need of extensive updates and changes to meet the needs of our workers. After much review, we have found that it is more cost effective to build a new building than to renovate our existing one.
Our new space, which will be located on 8+ wonderful acres on Shady Elm Road (past the G.E. and Ford plants) will allow us to expand our WorkCenter and will give us the opportunity to provide additional work and training options for our disabled partners.
NW Works has taken on the challenge of funding a new building: We will be building a larger facility to be located on 8+ wonderful acres on Shady Elm Road (past the G.E. and Ford plants) in Winchester. Our new “home” will allow us to expand the WorkCenter to take on a wider variety of jobs, serve more individuals with disabilities, and will provide additional training options for our most severely disabled clients.
We are making real progress with the new building design. The new layout, although not yet finalized, is truly wonderful and will allow the WorkCenter to meet the ever-evolving needs of our workers. Just a few of the proposed changes include a larger, more flexible work space so that we can spend less time setting up jobs and more time actually doing them, a comprehensive non-paid activity center, a better system for workers to enter/leave the facility, and space for an independent business enterprise which will be staffed by our clients.
We have a “Future Home of” sign in place at the new site, so if you get the chance, take a drive by and let us know what you think!
We have several major fundraising initiatives in place to help us raise much needed capital for this new building, including selling bricks for our “Walk of Fame”, our Haunted Casino Night, which will take place on Saturday, October 28th, and solicitation of funding from our local business and civic organizations. It is truly an exciting and important time in NWW’s history. Please call us for more information about our new space or any of our fundraising initiatives!
